DS dropped in a sink of water, is it Dead?

My son dropped his DS in a sink full of water. Of course it no longer works at all. No power up, no life what so ever. We've since replaced it with another DS, but we still have the carcus of the original water soaked DS, and if it can be fixed, I would like to try.

Whether or not it can be fixed is ultimately unknown, but you can try. Here is the link to the device page:

You can use the guides to take the DS apart to 1: get it dried out 2: check for and repair any damage caused by the water.

There will likely be oxidation on connections, and basically anything metal inside. You will want to clean this with >90% isopropyl alcohol and cotton swabs. The oxidation will usually be a white or green powder. Blow off what you can with canned air, then swab the rest. Be sure to use at least 90% alcohol, any lower percentage is diluted with water, and that would defeat the purpose.

Good luck!

not to be redundant, but this is how i did my first DS repair. A buddy from work brought it in just to see if i could do something with it. I cleaned it as stated above and it worked just fine again. Water damage is tricky (Coke damage much worse) but alcohol is the answer.

Instead of takeing a part ,you get a bag of rice. Put the device in the bag of rice and bury it in rice but not cooked rice and wait 48 hrs.

@hopefullmanx83 absolutely not. Rice does not do anything. It is the equivalent of doing nothing. ifixit has long adapted the philosophy that this myth about rice as a tool must disappear. Read more about that on here http://www.riceisfordinner.com/
