Do I have to remove the logic board first before Trackpad Replacement

Hi, I am talking about MacBook Pro 15" Retina Display Mid 2012.

I have noticed that there is no guide for retina 15' trackpad replacement, with only retina 13' available.

According to the guide for retina 13', speakers should be removed before disassembling the trackpad. Is that also necessary for retina 15'? If so, it would be much difficult since speakers can only be removed after the whole logic board.

Thanks in advance.

Why do you feel the trackpad needs replacing?

Thanks, Mayer. I am not sure whether it is liquid damage, but one day it is suddenly out of work. The pointer automatically randomly moves and clicks, while it doesn't quite tracks my touch. The mechanical click of the trackpad also feels strange, with some part of it cannot be quite clicked down. I have to disable the trackpad and use a mouse now, which is quite inconvenient.

Thanks. I am not sure whether it is the same problem. I am currently running the 10.9.5 system, with no EFI trackpad update available now in update page. A feature with my problem is that sometimes if I press the trackpad, it will work well for few days but then suddenly may go crazy unexpectedly again. Also, if I press left part of the trackpad, it makes little sound as if it cannot be pressed down, while clicking the right part of the trackpad is more soundable.

An external mouse and keyboard should work. I spent days fighting this. You can try my solution after you finish beating your brains out. Take a look at the battery and see if you are getting any swelling.

I will try. Thanks. By the way, could you please tell me how you disassembled the battery? It seems on the pictures that you did not remove the logic board but managed to remove the battery and the trackpad. I have tried to use iopener but apparently it did not do the job.

Besides, I am not sure whether I get your solution correctly. Does it mean to erase the hard disk and install a new system?

da

Trust me. You do not want to attempt a battery replacement as a novice or intermediate repair tech! You need to reformat the drive when booted from an external source. Next boot it up and do an internet reinstall. Quote from the teardown, "The lithium-polymer battery is glued rather than screwed into the case, which increases the chances that it'll break during disassembly. The battery also covers the trackpad cable, which tremendously increases the chance that the user will shear the cable in the battery removal process."
