Replacing and Upgrading Parts

I have a 2011 MBP that I've worked on for a while.

It has been modified to have a Samsung 850 EVO (500gb) and runs Elementary OS.

I'd love to swap out the aging wifi card, and while I saw the other thread on this sort of thing, I was wondering if, as it is on Linux, if it could run any wifi card out there.

What about RAM?

Does having it run Linux allow me to put in anything that fits?

First make sure your systems firmware is up to date. Follow this Apple T/N: About EFI and SMC firmware updates for Intel-based Mac computers. This will need to be done running under Mac OS-X. Your system can support up to 16 GB of RAM (two 8 GB memory modules) once the firmware is up to date.

As for the AirPort (WiFi) board, yes it can be upgraded to the AirPort Extreme board (802.11ac). Here is the IFIXIT guide: MacBook Pro 13" Unibody Early 2011 AirPort/Bluetooth Board Replacement. The part you'll need this: Broadcom BCM94331PCIEBT4CAX.

Depending on your WiFi AP, router and your internet connection as well as the other user load around you. You may not see as great of an improvement as one would hope for.
