Battery is not charging

Recently the MacBook started to have problems with charging the battery. The battery power icon indicated that the battery needed replacement soon (model mid 2010). I replaced battery but even with the new battery, it does not charge. I went to the Apple store to try it with a new charger, still no luck. The MacBook is functioning with the replacement battery currently at 55%, however it does not charge. What is the probable cause and how do you recommend to fix it or get it fixed?

When you are the Apple Store talking with one of the magnificent Genius's did they try another battery , is your battery a Original Apple battery?

When you say it doesn't charge do you mean it doesn't go to 100%, or that it doesn't go up at all? If it doesn't go to 100% you should try an SMC reset. If that doesn't work your battery is likely defective. If it doesn't charge at all it may be the DC In board (a common problem) or a more serious issue.

Hi John, thanks for your message. I ordered a new replacement battery through ifixit, $99, ifixit part #IF160-065-1. Not sure if this is an original Apple product, but it's being sold as such. They did not try another battery in the store, as of course it was to busy to provide any impromptu service beyond plugging in the machine. The sales guy told me it must be the connector that is damaged. He told me that Apple does not repair that any longer for the mid 2010 macbook models and provided me a reference of a local computer service business. I may try them out.

@Vs Electronics, the battery does not charge at all. The problem started with the original 2010 battery, which I replaced with a new one. Still no charging. I believe I will need to bring it in to a specialized shop. The Apple employee who attended me mentioned it was most likely a defect connector, but reading the comments on fixit, it could be worse. Thanks for your reply.

Might be a silly thing to try but i had this with the macbook's before this model. Can you try plugging the charger into the device and whilst the device is shut down but still plugged in, remove the battery and then resit the battery again and see if it works.

Please note: there will be power still going through the device so be careful!!!!
