Home Button Flex Cable Connector stuck in Home button Connector.

I went to replace my screen after breaking it a second time (I'm a klutz) and during this process the connector on the cable that connects the home button to the logic board broke from the cable and remains in the connector on the home button itself.

As I cannot replace the Home Button, my only option is to attempt to remove the connector. I have tried using tweezers but the package is too small. My next idea was to slightly heat the tip of my soldering iron and see if the connector will grip onto the tip of the iron. However if I break this button My iPhone is bricked and done so I wanted to see if you guys had any tips for me!

Sorry for the poor image quality but I don't have a camera available that can zoom in far enough.

Thanks!

Ok, sorry. I'm having a little trouble understanding the problem. So, what I'm getting out of this, you just need that backplate, that comes with that ribbon connector, and as long as you haven't damaged the button win the cable, you should be good to go

The connector from the ribbon cable broke off from the cable, while the home button was connected to it, resulting in the "cable" side of the connecter breaking off from the cable and remaining attached to the "home button" side.

So, even if i bought the new cable right now, I wouldn't be able to attach my home button to it because the old connecter is still occupying the space.

Sorry for not having a clear explanation, I'm not very fluent with the verbiage.

I'n the picture you can see how the plastic piece that the home button connector snaps into is missing....it's in the home button side of the "connector"

Wow, was so excited to see this post today and disappointed to see there was no answer!

I'll tell you what I did, but wow, please do this at your own risk!

I just now got it dislodged by pressing the part of the connector I wanted out onto some double-sided sticky tape.

(not that it matters, but this is the stuff I used: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0018NB...)

I then used a small, plastic pry tool to - repeatedly - flip the cap up to get the dislodged part to come off with it.

When I say repeatedly, I mean it took me around 30 tries to get this puppy out. What ended up working for me was pressing it down pretty hard (be careful!) onto the sticky tape, then somewhat abruptly (be careful!) opening the cap up.

My recommendation is to start REALLY softly trying to pry it of double-sided stick tape, then continually use more force. I will say I'm pretty careful, and this was getting to the high end of the amount of force I was comfortable using (both pressing down on the connector, and abruptness of force in flipping up the connector.

You might see, on the metal cap of the connector with the bar code on it, there is a notch in one corner. On one side there's the flex ribbon, on the other there's not. *THIS IS WHERE I PRIED FROM*. I can't tell you whether or not this is key, but for some reason it felt like it may have made a difference.

I figured out how to get a picture on here! It worked perfectly, and, thankfully, the home button looks unharmed.

GOOD LUCK!

Aftab, did it end up working?

Hi, I just received my new screen from China with the backplate attached. I tried the sticky tape method and it worked

da

Exact same issue unfortunately... Thank you so much because it worked like a charm. I used Gorilla Glue Mounting Tape for it to work.

Many thanks for sharing.

I too had this issue where I tore the flex extension cable while swapping screens on my iphone 6plus.

The socket tore off the flex cable and was stuck to the touch ID connector. I tried using a needle but realized quickly that I was more likely to destroy the connectors fine wires.

Saw this; stuck double sided adhesive tape (used the No More Nails brand as it’s a little spongy and I had it around) onto a plastic spudger/pry tool.

Pressed it onto the connector/firmly and pulled up quickly. Repeated this a few times.

Worked within 3-5 pulls (10 seconds max).

Thanks again, saved the screen and me from having to lose TouchID.
