What are molds used for?

I understand that with a mold it helps align the lcd and glass, however; im still curious as to what the mold is used for aside from this? i hear it helps keep glue from getting into the back light. But, can't the glue still seep in through the sides of the LCD? Or does the mold stop anything from gettting in? and how?

The mold is just that it aligns the glass with the LCD. The LOCA can still get into the backlight that's why it's very important to use the right amount of LOCA. I hope this help answear your questions.

oh gotcha. So then itd probably be best to just remove the back light? and then resolder it?

Yes, but keep in mind that when you remove the backlight the LCD seats lower in the molding, I always us a defective backlight that I put in the molding for the LCD to seat properly. Or you can also use which I have done as well is use a small amount of electrical silicone to create a seal between the backlight and LCD. If you have any more questions let me know hope his helps you.

so when i'm repairing or replacing a backlight, this is what i should do?.. So first, remove the backlight by soldering it out. Then take a broken backlight and sit it on the mold first and place the lcd on top. then apply the glue. Right? and how would i work with the electrical silicon? would i just apply some of it around the edges and then wipe it off after? Thanks for all the help :)

That is correct remove good backlight and put a defective in its place. Or the other method is putting electronic sealer which in the phone industry they call it "backlight sealer" and I attached a link of a video how to use sealer. Any other question let my know good luck.

Okay i tried you method. I love it. However, not im stuck at the backlight soldering. I received a backlight that i bought via ebay. For some reason it's not soldering on regardless of how much i try to sold it. Would i need to but some of the rosin solder on to the ribbon?
