Black display after changing battery 1st gen iPad with WiFi

Hello. I'm working on a 1st gen iPad w/ WiFi for a friend and after changing the battery the display is black. The backlight is lighting up fine but there is no display graphics active. The device is recognized in iTunes and can be placed in and out of recovery mode. I have backed the device up in iTunes while I had it plugged in the last time. As I was working on it I hot checked it a few times (connected everything up and turned it on without fully closing it up) and it came to life every time and all functions worked as expected (WiFi connected, light sensor detected low light, digitizer responded, charging functions worked, headphone jack and external speakers made sound, etc) Now after replacing all of the broken retention clips around the bottom of the screen along with using super glue to reattach all of the rubber bumpers that came loose during disassembly, the display is not working correctly. Luckily I performed one last hot check before snapping it closed and noticed it then. Can someone please tell me what could be causing this to happen and what I can do to determine how to repair it? It was working perfectly up until this point and I just want the project done so I can give it back to him. I don't have any other iPad parts to help troubleshoot what is going on so I'm stuck there.

Things that I have tried to get this going again:

-cursed at my bad luck and wished the problem away

-removed power from logic board/ disconnected battery for a few minutes

-power cycling the device

-cleaned and dried the LCD cable contacts with 91% IPA

-removed the clips/ screws from the back of the LCD and reconnected to test

-placed in recovery mode but didn't go as far as restoring the device (didn't have a backup made at that point)

Differentiate whether it is auto-booting into DFU mode, (iTunes recognizes it in recovery mode or normal) or an image line failure

Thanks Jessa. I hope I understand the question. I just tested this out just now to confirm. If I connect it to iTunes it recognizes it in normal mode. If I force it into recovery mode it recognizes it in recovery mode. Windows also recognizes the device and pops up the autoplay window to ask me what I want to do with the device. When I connect the 30pin cable the iPad chirps like normal when it switches to charge mode. All other responses or reactions seem to be normal other than the display graphics are blacked out. It's similar to if you turned your monitor to your PC off when it was playing music. The music would continue to play but you wouldn't be able to see the music player app that was on the screen. Ghost sliding on the screen to use the slide to unlock works as I can hear the unlocking click and hitting the sleep/ wake works as I can hear a click for that too. This just sounds too weird. It was working perfectly up to this point.

@mayer You plug it into iTunes, if iTunes says "you have connected a device in recovery mode" then it is auto-booting into DFU mode (DFU is a form of recovery mode). If iTunes says "would you like to connect to Kevin's iPhone" then it is recognizing it in normal mode, in which case you have a different problem to chase.

OK. I guess, based on your question, that it's an image line failure Jessa. I'm thinking it's not repairable by me at home. Is this the case? I was extremely careful with the cables and connectors and I don't see any damage to any of them so I'm not sure what I did wrong with the battery change. Any help would be appreciated.
