Error 4013. Repair centre bricked my phone!

TL;DR: Sent my iPhone 5 to a third-party repair centre to fix a cracked screen. Phone now bricked, error 4013 on restore. Are they lying when they say it's a coincidence?

- - - -

Had a cracked screen on iPhone 5 for several weeks and chose on a whim to have it repaired when walking past a shopping centre phone repair counter. The screen they installed was faulty (dead pixels) so had it replaced by them a second time.

Phone worked okay for three days, then software crashed and phone got stuck in an Apple logo reboot loop. Restore failed, error 4013.

Returned to repair shop. Was told the problem was charging port, not screen (so not their fault). They managed to get the phone working again saying charging port might fail in the future. (Not happy but resolved to get fixed elsewhere if that occurred.)

That evening I realised the front camera was no longer working. Attempted reboot and entered reboot loop. Restore failed, error 4013.

Returned to repair shop. Apparently new charging port tried but they couldn't get it to work, so phone bricked.

Store's position is this failure is a complete coincidence because error 4013 not related to screen. My position is that it's likely the store broke something on my phone while repairing it.

Who is likely correct?

short answear to your question: Was this error the repair shops fault ?: unlikely but...

here comes the long answear:

The error you are describing is often a result of a (heavy) drop which damaged(small cracks) the small solder points below the NAND chip (like the hard-drive) of your phone causing the phone to brick because it can no longer access the data of the phone. Now you might ask: But why did my phone still worked after the drop ? Well not all problems of a drop are immediately visible. Some show over time, when the problem gets worse. They appear with random crashes and some weird behavior.

Under normal circumstance, the change of your screen will not have anything to do with your current problem unless the phone dropped heavy during the lcd repair, which might be unlikely.

And yes error 4013 and 4014 is not related to LCD

hope I could somehow bring some light into that matter

forgive my english and my grammar

greetings from Germany.

So I had similar problem and I was so frustrated with it I wanted to try to help others that were experiencing it. So I bought a screen replacement and I finally figured out that it was the camera on the new screen that was causing it. I have read on other forums that some had to replace the proximity sensor too. I would suggest open up iphone and unhook the camera from the motherboard and see if your iphone boots. If it does then it is your camera. You can either keep it unattached and reclose if you don't care not having a front facing camera (i would almost cut the ribbon tbh or take the camera out and just not have it at all if determine camera is causing it) or install the camera from your old screen (this is what i did once I figured out it was front facing camera. Best of luck!

I had error 4013 with NAND Lines (FindFlashMediaAndKeepOut............... provider<ptr..............)

I've changed the screen for my case and it's been working (sometimes the phone starts normally and the digitizer wasn't working)
