Battery not charging after replacement

Original battery was not holding a charge at all and left me phoneless until I upgraded to an iPhone 4. I ordered an OEM replacement battery from Directfix.com and tore the 3G down and replaced it. I've taken it apart before b/c a rattling screw that came loose somehow was annoying the !@%$ out of me, so I'm accustomed with taking it apart and putting it back together without much hassle.

I was delighted when it powered up and I was able to retrieve most of my contacts off of the phone. It powered on at about 80%. I failed to check the voltage at the leads before I installed it (didn't think it necessary at the time). Now, when plugged into the USB port of my imac, it shows that it is plugged in and "charging" but the battery meter goes nowhere but down.

Did I get a bad battery? Am I losing voltage somewhere else in the phone without my knowledge? Grounding pins are intact on the motherboard. What is the next logical step?

look at connector 4 and the dock connector for damage and dirt. you probably had 80% on battery and when this ran out no charge because a faulty connection between dock and motherboard means no charge getting to your lovely new battery. open it back up again and check/reseat connectors. also look at pins that connect to battery for damage
