Stop sign at boot-up MacBook Pro late 2011

Hey guys,

My Macbook pro has two hard drives : one SSD for boot up and software and the original disk to hold data. The update was 18 months ago and worked fine until now. It has 16GB of ram.

My Mac started acting out about ten days ago:

- At first the Mac got stuck on a spinning wheel while using it

- I turned it off manually. At boot up it would take very long for the start-up bar to load until the stop sign appears

- I thought the disk cable was acting out, I tried the "tape" trick which worked for 2 minutes but then back to normal

- I replaced the hard drive cable for a brand new one. It worked for a day

- Now I get the stop sign again at boot up

Failed disk? Should I just replace it? Disk utility says both hard drives are fine. Hardware tests at boot up say everything is fine. It doesn't boot now.

Thanks,

Gab

Update (10/31/2015)

Hey guys,

I managed to get it started again. It had a software update. That seems to have solved it.

Thanks anyway,

Gab

Do you have an external bootable drive you can boot your system up with? If not do you have a second Mac which you can connect your system to (Target Mode).

Otherwise you'll need to create a bootable drive like a USB thumb drive off of a friends Mac.

Once you have that or manage to get your system booted up in Target Mode try running Disk Utility on the drives from the external drive or master system to see what gives.

Can you give us the specs of the SSD and your current HD as well as the placement each is in.

Hey Dan, Thanks for your answer! Sometimes the mac boots and works for a little while. Then it slows down all of the sudden and it's fine again. Then it stops working. I just ran Disk utility : it said the disks are fine. Apple hardware test says "no trouble found" HD : placed instead of the CD player. Toshiba (it's the original hard drive) SSD : placed where the original HD was. It's a 256go but that's all I know. I don't have more info on the hard drives: It's not booting now. Gab

This apple sucks, am tired of this brand I lost my Mac book air couple of weeks ago due to the logic board issue the Apple care asking me $750 for the repair

And now the Mac book pro started acting like a ##&&%, stop sign, folder question mark, if try to update the latest OS it's goes to very old, and even after if try to update from AppStore it's say " error " while it's almost done

Am done
