Volume up and ringer buttons not working

My iphone fell off my desk. Volume up and ringer not working anymore. Volume down is working fine. The device is silent. All sounds work perfectly and when toggling silent through software, silent and unsilent modes work normally. No visible damage happened to the exterior of the iphone at all .

The shock could have damaged the button or the ribbon cable that connects the buttons to the motherboard. I had the same issue with the power button.

This guide will show you how to replace the cable/buttons: iPhone 4 Volume Button Replacement

Should i change them both or just the buttons. Since the volume down is working, doesn't this indicate that the cable is working ??

The ribbon cable is very fragile, maybe a junction with the volume up button broke, but that is something that can only be tested when the phone is open. You could remove the physical buttons place the battery back and then push with a pen or so on the switch to see if it works then.

If not, the cable has to be changed.
