It is stuck in the startup apple logo and spinning wheel

I've tried everything I've read and still stuck.

The last thing I did after Turing off..turned on then held option, command, P&R

Let it tone 3 times..still stuck :(

If you can find your disk that came with the mac or even any Mac os disk or usb put that in hold c key or option , in disk utility verify and fix permissions if unable to repair you need to back up to external if your having trouble backing up you need disk warrior or a proffesional data recovery. If it worked and repaired it restart your computer ejecting the disk by holding trackpad on startup go back to disk utility and verify to check it again.

Where should I buy the hard drive?

WE had the best Apple repair shop here in Redding but for some reason they closed" I might be able to get a hold of one of the owners..I f not would you trust the Geek Squad with a Mac?

I'm really jazzed to have found ( IFIXIT ).

Thanks again for your help, John & OldTurkey✌

I would buy another hard drive cause you'll need one either way or if you have another one great. I would get a sata to usb adapter for running it external boot into your mac the way it is and restore your hard drive onto your new one. If it does'nt work you have a working mac cause you have another hard drive with a fresh install if the data is too shot you'll disk warrior or a data recovery person which can cost you. I would def try getting another hard drive first so you got a mac at least you can use even if your files are'nt on it you got the disc you can just install and update on your own. Maybe it will be lower cost if you bring your laptop to someone to see if they can get the data off your old drive onto the new one if your have a already working mac when you show up.

Hey John, I bought a new Hard Drive and the external drive. I put the new H.D. in my Mac , I've been using the disk, but it doesn't recognize the new hard drive.

I've tried using disk utilities..and doing a few other things I read to do..but to no avail. What am I missing? Thanks!
