16GB (2X8GB) RAM Compatibility Question

Hi,

I was looking to buy an 16GB (2X8GB) RAM upgrade kit through iFixit for my MacBook Pro 13" Unibody (2.4GHz, i5; A1278; MacbookPro8,1). The item is not available through iFixit at the moment, so I was looking at other sellers to see what would work.

The following product is available through Amazon, but it says it's not compatible with my model:

I also found this, which looks identical, but is listed as being compatible:

I'd prefer to order from Amazon due to price and the free shipping I get through Prime, but I'm not sure how to verify if the Crucial RAM they're selling is compatible with my laptop. Are they both essentially the same thing, or is the Crucial RAM truly not compatible? How can I tell the difference besides what they tell me on the site?

I installed 16GB of RAM ( 2 x 8GB). They are 1600 MHZ and works fine on my macbook pro late 2011 edition. Apple says 8GB is the max, but in fact the system can work with 16 GB as well.

Correct! From EveryMac: "Apple officially supports a maximum of 8 GB of RAM, but third-parties have determined that this model actually is capable of using up to 16 GB of RAM with two 8 GB memory modules." Your computer takes the PC3-10600. I've never tried to put the PC3-12800 chips into a 2011 so I don't know if the 12800s are backwards compatible. I think they are but I don't know for sure. The ones in the links you posted are for 2012 models.
