Black Screen Powers Off after 1 minute

Okay, So I have a several hundred dollar Toshiba that I believe just ran out of warranty. After a few months of using it, I began to turn it on and received a black screen in return. The laptop would start, but the fans would barely power, as they usually spin rather fast when the laptop first powers on. All lights come on, but nothing from the screen. When I power it on, I have tried waiting for hours for the screen to correct itself, but the laptop turns itself off after only a minute or so. I'd rather not pay geek squad to repair it if I can do it myself. Thank you in advance, Connor
