Upgrade screen resolution in Lenovo g510 to fullHD 1920x1080.

Hello,

Is possible to replace the screen with higher resolution full HD - 1920x1080

in Lenovo G510 with 15,6"1366x768 ?

If yes, have I replace the screen cable also? Now I have 40 pin cable, I think.

Hardware details:

Motherboard:

LENOVO 20238

Graphics cards:

AMD Radeon R7 M265 Series

Intel HD Graphics 4600

CPU

i7-4700MQ

I suppose only barrier can be motherboard if it doesn't support fullHD.

There is similar laptop Lenovo z50-70 with fullHD support.

Thanks!

Hey Pawel,

I'm addressing the same problem next week.

I ordered a Lenovo T510/W510 Full HD matte display with 40 pin connector, and a 40 pin T510 display cable (FRU 75Y5557).

The display from the Lenovo Z50-70 will surely not work because of its 30 pin connector, whereas the G510 has a 40 pin connector.

I'll keep you up to date if I'm lucky with my trial-and-error purchase ;-)

Best, Benjamin

Does the lcd cable for Lenovo t510/w510 have a different motherborad connector than the g510?

Thanks Benajmin, I'm looking forward hearing from you.

Hey guys!

I tried to fit the display with no luck.

Here's why:

- The display does fit physically, so everything seems okay.

- The back side connector fits physically.

- The screen is recognized by Windows as being connected, and it lights up.

- However, there is no picture displayed: I tried the original connector as well as a replacement connector from a Thinkpad Y510.

My best explanation is:

The G510 as well as the Y510 only feature a single LVDS channel, which is not able to address any display with a resolution above 1366x768. The Thinkpad T510/W510 feature a dual channel LVDS connector (the one you click into its socket from above, I don't know the exact specification name), that's why their cable doesn't fit.

Therefore the image display data is not transmitted, not even half of it, as one may have read in several threads around the net.

Sorry for the bad news guys - but honestly, I'm done with the G510, as it also features those creepy wifi whitelist bios thing. Boo, Lenovo.

Thank you for your reply. Best Regards!

Benjamin, it seems that you are right... the barrier is LVDS single channel.
