Buying a New MacBook Pro Please assist WIth Upgrades

Hi,

I am looking to purchase a new mac. Let me clarify, I am looking to purchase a newer mac. I have been using an Aluminium Body Macbook since I purchased in 2008. It has been a trooper. I upgraded it to 8 GB of Ram. Upgraded the hard drive. New Battery several times over, but I think it has reached the end of the line. The main issue is battery life. I get 2-3 hours out of it unplugged. Which was fine but now looking to move on to greener pastures. So instead of putting a 1 TB SSD Samsung 850 Evo into it, what I am interested in is purchasing the most recent version of a Macbook pro preferably retina that still allows you to upgrade the RAM and SSD. It is my understanding that the new Macs have the components soldered into the unibody. Rendering them pretty what you see is what you will always get unless you really go to work on it.

As opposed to buying a new macbook pro with 16 GB's or Ram and 1 TB SSD for 2.5 ish g's. Is it possible to purchase an older retina and do that aftermarket, but still get about 8-10 hours of battery life.

Thank you for your help.
