Hard Drive Replacement - please help!

After reading and reading all of the great information here. I am still a little confused.

I have a 24" iMac 2008 - 2.4ghz with a bad HD. It's been dead for quite sometime, sitting in a room and I thought I'd like to bring it back to life, the poor thing.

I want the replacement to also be an upgrade. From what I understand, I could place a hybrid sshd into it such as this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Seagate-Solid-St...

But not an SSD, is that right? Also, I still have my original osx CD's when I purchased it... and I don't even know what it was running on... it was BEFORE snow leopard lol. Should I use those or follow the instructions I found here? THanks.

Also, I'd like to upgrade the ram. Can someone point me into the right direction on how to do that. And if there is any other recommendations on cleaning/upgrading that I could use as I am sure some other components are dusty and such.

I am a web developer, but am rather clueless on the guts of a computer itself. THANK YOU SO MUCH IN ADVANCE!

Yes you can put in an SSD provided that it uses the SATA interface/connector. The Hybrid drive that you provided a link is compatable to your computer.

Follow this link to change your Hard Drive:

Installazione del disco rigido nell'iMac Intel EMC 2134 ed EMC 2211 da 24"

As for the RAM, your computer is compatable with PC2-5300 RAM sticks, to change it follow this link:

Installazione della memoria RAM nell'iMac Intel EMC 2134 e 2211 da 24"

Just be sure to check what the max supported RAM for your computer is by:

Click the apple logo in the top left corner.

Click "about this mac".

Then click the "memory" tab in the window that opens.

On that page it should tell you what type of RAM your system supports and it should provide a link for RAM upgrades. Follow that link and identify your system to check what is the max supported RAM by your system.

This will help because if you put in RAM that is a larger capacity that what your system supports then your system will only recognise the amount that it supports and the rest will not be used.

Also make sure you buy RAM that matches the specifications that are supported by your system.
