Restoring to factory settings can be done in many different ways.

WARNING: Performing a factory reset removes everything from your computer including all personal data and applications. Be sure to have all of your data backed up and be prepared to re-install all software.

Once you are sure that all of your personal data is safe, a factory reset can be performed with either a CD/DVD that came with your laptop or from a special portion of the hard drive. Instructions vary from model to model. If possible identify the exact product by looking at the bottom of your computer for a model number or name in order to get better instructions.

A factory reset resets absolutely everything and could require items not included from the factory such as Word and Excel to be installed afterwards as they are not included on the Factory Reset disk. They must be loaded from separate install media.
