How do I get rid of the big time and weather square

How do I get rid of the big time weather square on my wallpaper? Also I added galaxy apps and it's a huge square too. Neither will let me remove by holding down and sliding to remove? Help!!

One other question...one of my zynga games will not let me pick up where I left off...this is a new tablet...but my other one was an android too. My other games added automatically with no issues. Any suggestions on any of these issues?
