Display affected by hinge

Backlight goes off but you can see the screen with strong external light.

Backlight can be invoked with a magnet placed on the desktop.

Started with recovery done by rearranging the cover angle. Thought it might have been the cable within the hinge until I saw the magnet work. Stays on momentarily and then it reoccurs.

Thanks

I reviewed and see that I have an A1181

does this fit apply to this model. I see that the infrastructure is different? 2009

If the screen goes dark again after placing the magnet on the top where the sensor is that implies the hall sensor is bad. If I remember correctly, the hall sensor is part of the hard drive cable. Here's the IFIXIT guide to replace the cable: MacBook Unibody Model A1342 Hard Drive Cable Replacement.

It is also possible the WLED driver has a bad solder joint. But that is a logic board level repair. For now try the cable and let us know how it goes.

Update

You'll need to replace both the inverter and the invert cable.

OK, Nix the drive cable. Your system has an inverter which is likely the issue
