fitbit flex wont sync, giving wrong data

I recently got the fitbit flex. my mom tried it on at work since she got it for me through her work. she was able to sync it. i tried it with my android phone and it wont let me sync it, it says "the Bluetooth pin, keyword, passkey is incorrect." but for some reason it said i did 1823 steps when my mom had just done 21 after she took it off. and today i haven't walked anywhere but it has burned calories. And i turned on the sleep mode on it around 12:10am and it said i turned it on at 11pm and it said i slept good through out the night but I've been tossing and turning because i kept waking up at night. I'm actually thinking of returning it and getting the fitbit one or fitbit zip. if i got it from vitality can i return the fitbit flex?

Hi Valerie,

I'll try to answer as much as possible but don't think I can solve all your issues. First, you might want to try resetting your Flex and syncing it to your phone after. Once it's synced via Bluetooth to a device, it can run into problems syncing to another.

To reset:

1. Plug your charging cable into the USB port and insert your tracker into the charging cable.

2. Insert a paperclip into the small pinhole on the back of the charger.

3. Press on the pinhole for 3-4 seconds.

As far as the steps and calories: A lot of movements (frequent motions with the arm/wrist) can cause the steps to increase. This normally won't add too many "phantom" steps to your count but could be why yours had so many after little activity. The calories burned is not purely based on physical activity - it is taking an average of how many calories you would typically burn in a day based on your age, weight, etc. This is sometimes referred to as your BMR (basal metabolic rate). This is the minimum amount of energy your body needs to function so any activity on top of that is icing on the cake! For example, if I were to stay in bed all day and not exercise, I can except to burn about 1700 calories.

As for the sleep mode, hopefully resetting it and syncing to your device will solve the problem. Because it only requires frequent tapping to exit sleep, it may be deactivating somehow during the night (especially if you're tossing and turning).

I have had the Zip and now have the Charge HR which keeps track of heart rate and gives you a much better idea of calories burned/sleep patterns/steps.
