Touchpad replacement options if possible

Hi Folks,

my Samsung NP900X4C-A03CA Series 9 15" is now out of warranty and my touchpad is half working.

I cannot press the left click and use another finger to have a selection area, as isthe right click not working anymore.

Multi-touch is still working properly.

I have been updating drivers as recommended by my previous searches, but the issue is still here.

I have opened the body, remove the battery and checked the touchpad. The only thing that seems weird is the bottom 2 metallic parts that seems enclosing the palm rest body that are not tight. Other than that no apparent damage.

I've been looking on ebay for parts, but couldn't find mine, if it is available.

So, first, is it possible to repair the touchpad, if so, how ?

Second, if we cannot, is it replaceable ?

I know that a solution is to use a mouse as I do right now, but in the prospection of selling it, I would like to make it functional.

Thanks a lot for your help !

Hi, as you indicated those are palmrests, not touch pads. And here I am seeking someone who repaired or would know how to repair the touchpad solely.

Unless it is confirmed that I need to change the whole palmrest to repair my touchpad, what seems to me a bit extreme.

So with your comment, are you in position to certify me I need to change the palmrest for my touchpad issue ?

Thanks

No it's a touch pad, but finding one used by it's self would more then likely not be in as good of shape then one still connected to a Palm Rest. I would also clean both ends of the ribbon cable that goes from the touch pad to the connector board and check if the ends are seated properly before you decide to get any parts. Without it being in my shop, I cannot certify that this is your definite problem. I can only go by your provided information.

Same issue here but mines a Samsung 200B laptop, having to use a mouse, Multi touch is fine, but both buttons dont work left and right.

Can samsung not fix it for a reasonable cost!

Do they have a repair centre here in the UK?

There are You Tube videos that will demonstrate how to fix the issue assuming the problem is strictly mechanical in nature (which mine and many others were). The bottom half of the touchpad is held in place with tabs underneath the keyboard area cover; the top half is glued in place with double stick tape. Underneath the touchpad lies a beautiful battery which naturally heats up with use/charging; something that affects the glue over time. The glue eventually travlels impeding the touchpad from its normal operation. The fix is to remove the back part of the laptop followed by the battery and then the touchpad. The touch pad and surrounding area must then be carefully cleaned and the self-adhesive tape eventually replaced. Sounds like a major feat but there's really not much to it. You will need a set phillips bits as part of a jeweler's screwdriver set. My touchpad works fine now. Good luck
