Has anyone tried to take apart the LCD panel for this model?

Has anyone actually tried to take apart and clean the LCD panel on a 27 inch late 2012 imac. It is an EMC 2546 type LCD panel. I have one that has dust/dirt in between the front glass and the LCD panel. I am going to attempt taking this panel apart and would like any information from anyone that may have attempted this procedure before. The panels are supposedly fused, but if they were indeed fused, dust/dirt would not be able to get inside the display. Anyway I will let everyone here know what I find.

Thanks

Apple claims it is sealed. Frankly I would recommend visiting an Apple Store with your system. I suspect Apple has an extended warranty program on defective displays.

At least give it a try! Don't give up when the genius tech turns you down (if he/she does). Ask to speak with the manager and don't get angry, remember they have a lot of latitude on on the edge cases but you need to earn their respect first.

Let us know if they take care of you.

I wouldn't try opening it! Sadly, they use a special double sided foam tape between the cover glass and the screen. I suspect you'll end up cracking the glass in the process. Then you still need to reseal it.

Mayer there is still the cover glass to LCD foam which is different (I haven't found a source for it)

Dan, you are correct. I forgot that it's one piece. This calls for a "Warranty Exception", as Apple calls it and you have to do a lot of smooth talking to get it. I have found that attractive females with low cut blouses with ample assets have much better luck getting these types of repairs done for free. Lucille ( seen here) would have no problem getting a warranty exception: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=veCZvM6-...

Dam! I forgot about that scene ;-}
