Switches between capture and display mode, and zooms in?

Hi, I tried finding an answer on this site but I am not used to it yet so I am very sorry of this has been asked before.

My camera has been broken for many years now. I suspect that very fine water droplets might have enter it when I travelled during monsoon.

When I turn on the camera, and I put it in capture mode, sometimes it stays fine but sometimes it starts acting up ( most of the time ). The mode will change to display mode instead of capture, without me changing the option with the buttons. Also, the zoom sometimes zooms in, all the way to the digital zoom.

This happens in a seeming random way but too often for the camera to be usable.

Do you think some board is fried or is it just a wire problem? I don't think it's the software, it just seems like there is a bad contact somewhere but I have never opened a camera and I would not dare to try if I do not have at least a hint of where to look for the problem.

I hope someone has a suggestion :)
