kindle does not charge displays a charge error message and won't turn

Display is empty battery, usb plus with an arrow and a charge icon. It won't turn on, 20 sec rule does not work, even if I get it to change the screen it reverts to this battery one. Someone must have had the same error message before?

Did you try another charger cable? sounds like its not making full contact.

yes I tried 3 different ones and I think you are right, it isn't, but I can't make it take it up, and I tried the 20 or 30 sec reboot, with no change. I think the battery ran right out and may be it is now damaged in some way. I phoned Amazon kindle help and they said it is defunct and I needed a new one. But it seems to me that the lifespan is not that long, as this is the 3rd one I will have had in a matter of 3-4 years.
