Why isnt my phone charging?

This is a brand new cellphone. It was working fine and then all of a sudden it would stop charging. To charge it I have to hold the cord in a certain place and that gets annoying. I have watched videos about this problem and they say that you should take a needle and clean out the lint. Well I did that and I still have the same problem. I don't have the money to buy a new phone and I really don't want to because I love this phone. What do I need to do to fix it? I don't have insurance on it. Please someone help me.
