change hdd to SSd on an late 2009 iMac

hello,

my iMac (27-inch, Late 2009), and it needs to change the hard drive.

I want to change it for an ssd (http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-Electronic...) and my question is, it´s ok to put this ssd, or I will get some troubles with the connectors?

The connectors should not be an issue. OWC is selling the 128GB model as compatible they even provide an install video.

If this answer is acceptable please remember to return and mark it.

machead - There is an issue here, you can't use a SSD without encountering the fans ramping up. Remember SSD's don't offer an internal thermal sensor that is compatible with Apples thermal system. You will need to add inline the special SATA cable OWC offers: Sensor cable

Dan. Thanks for making me, and others, aware of this problem! Also the other option from your Answer.

For the same amount of money you can get a SSHD (hybrid drive) from Seagate which will offer similar speed improvements booting and yet offers more storage. The newer models (ones with the apple logo on the packaging) are direct replacement for your current drive and you won't need the sensor cable (see above) unlike the SSD (saving 50 bucks!).

As an option if you can swing it I would replace the HD and add in the SSD as a second drive and then create a Fusion drive across the two disks.

Great advice. Where do you recommend purchasing the SSHD (hybrid drive)? I'd like to order from a place that can ensure me it is the correct replacement part.

On a side note, last month I purchased several cables from iFixit when upgrading 3 MacBook Pros (13, 15, & 17 models) with SSD and they work GREAT! Thanks!

First you'll need to figure out what size. Here's the Seagate web page: Desktop SSHD's. Next you'll need to find either a local dealer or order it from the IFIXIT store.

Dan - this drive would not be able to replace a original WD drive in a 2009 21,5" would it?

da

Yes it could, but you'll need to switch out the sensor cable: Seagate - 922-9216.

My Imac comes a 1 TB hard drive, is it possible to put a sshd of two TB?
