When my charge is in it reads not charging.

As I plug in the charger, it reads not charging. When I disconnect the charger it turns off completely in a split second. I bought a new battery due to my old one having too many charges. I charged up the new battery for 10 hours and disconnected the charge and this is when the error occured the first time. Since thereafter, it happens with both batteries and have no idea why????

It could be that the battery cable that connects the battery to the logic board is faulty. Check for corrosion where the cable plugs in to the logic board. This happens a lot, in my experience. In this case, if the corrosion isn't too severe, a toothbrush on the affected area may help. If not, then you may need both the connector and a logic board. :-(

Or you could have gotten a defective battery.

Or your adapter is faulty.

If there is one in your area, Apple has a battery and adapter check that any reputable apple service authorized store/depot will do for free.

I'm thinking more so the battery connector, what you're describing doesn't match up with the symptoms the OP has provided.

I went to apple. They used a different battery=same result. They wanted 310 plus tax to fix it they r out of their minds to ask for that for a faulty product. Any way for me to fix it?

da

Yeah, just tell us your model number and we'll direct you to the right part, it isn't the battery.

da

Actually you'll have to tell us also if it's energy star or not, the two different connectors aren't interchangeable.

rab777hp, I did mean the battery connector...

Micheal, I'm curious: what was the fix the Apple service center wanted to do? That price is too low for a logic board and waaay too high for a battery connector.

The "genious" at Apple just said that they would send it in to fix it. He also had the nerve to tell me that a computer not even 2 years old is old. I did a ton of research and found out that there are chips in the computer and battery and when using a new battery for instance the chip could turn to using battery from the source directly and not the battery itself. All I need to do is change this setting somehow. The model number I dont have off hand because I gave my computer to a friend to take a look at but I could tell you I bought it 2 years ago from Apple. There isn't any corrosion or anything of that kind. If I could figure a way to change the compuiter to use the battery for a source of power instead of a direct power source, I believe id be in the clear. By the way thanks for all your help in this matter. Also sometimes it does charge but the same result when I disconnect the charge and that is that it shuts off immediately.

I pretty sure its the Model A1181. I read that when you have a dead battery like I did the computer changes its setting to charge directly from the power outlet and when using a new battery like I tried it doesnt work because the computer is hereby formatted to work directly with the power source. If I can change that id be golden.

I'm siding with paintbyletters....just opened up a A1181 and found green verdigris corrosion on the logic board hidden under a piece of insulating tape...track seems intact but possibly transistor blown ( a three-legged device with one side open circuit)..see if I've got a tiny npn transistor...

Edit....no it looks like it's a FET

Update

Schematic available for $10 on http://www.docin.com/p-47426907.html#

Update

Unfortunately after cleaning verdigris, still the same.
