Hello,
I was recommended to purchase additional RAM for a Macbook pro 13" mid-2008 laptop; however, I don't see this model available on ifixit.com. Can I purchase RAM from another model year? And if so, how much? Right now, I currently only have 2 RAM.

See this page. If the RAM is of the right type (specification) i.e. 1066 MHz PC3-8500 DDR3 SDRAM. you can purchase it new or used anywhere. Top tier name brands generally preform better than cheap unknown brands.
Your box can use up to 8GB of RAM.
