potential problems by soldering the ic chip incorrectly?

Hi

is there any potential pronlems if I solder my own ic chip to a new digitiser? Would it blow anything if a couple of contacts were touching? Or would it simply not work?

Would like to practice this, but not at the expense of someones ipad when i repair it.

would be handy to do, as im fed up of these cheap ones which flicker everytime I lay it flat, and have to cover it in tape.

Thanks

Most likely worst case scenario: dead device.

Update

If you don't do it right, you could get the power leads or voltage to where they don't belong. Hence possibility of a dead device is strong.

Is that fact or just a guess? Just that I would think as the connections would only ne sending signals, then I would imagine the digitiser would go a bit loopy as if the flex cable was pinched? But that's just a guess. Wonder if anyone has actually done it wrong? I know all the local repair shops in this area don't solder the parts.

Ok, I'm not really experienced at soldering, but practice makes perfect.

wonder if there's some sort of schematic for that connection?
