Hello,
I have used my MacBook Pro Late 2011 A1278 OS 10.9.5 for five years and have had no problem. I always make it suspend using DeepSleep third part software. Last weekend I have updated my hard drive to a SSD Ultra II Sandisk 480Gb using the disk utility to clone my original drive.
Everything went fine, expect that Office 2011 ask for the license again, and the Mac was taking to long to boot. Well I have re-entered the license and discovered that I need to set again the booting disk on OS preferences.
Both problems were solved, and now I boot in 20s, before was 2-3min.
But yesterday I have used my Mac up to battery complete discharge and the system enter in suspend mode. I have waited 5 hours and before go to sleep I let the battery charging.
Well today it wake from suspend mode but starting flickering the screens and also blanking it in a random manner. The system was there because it answer my key press but I was navigating complete blind some seconds.
After 2 minutes doing this I decided restart the machine by asking OS to restart.
After restart everything went fine again for hours.
What could be the problem? OS Mavericks is have not been fully tested with SSD drivers? Sandisk drive is not compatible?
I do level component repairs to notebook motherboards and can assure there is no BGA, flat cable or LCD problem on my Mac.
Very strange.

Which serial number do you mean? It's a Macbook5,1, Intel Core 2 Duo, 2GHz, 13 Inch, Unibody, Late 2008, NVIDIA GeForce 9400M 256 MB running Os X 10.9.4.

Has anyone been into the machine? Any work on the LCD or any reason the LDVS cable might have been disconnected?

No, not really. I upgraded it to 8GB RAM and a SSD 6 months ago. But it's working fine since then.
