Wireless internet card broken due to coke on mac

The description says most of it, I was clumsy, spilled on my mac and now I can't connect to internet. Me and my parents took it to repairs (I'm 16) and my mac cost new $1400 but they want to fix it for $2000! My parents aren't doing good with money, I don't have a job, no insurance and I need it to be back to normal quick. The repair people said it was completely broken, yet I can still type on it, camera works, it's as fast as it was first day I got it, keyboard light and back light works, sound works, I can do everything I could before it happened... Except connect to the internet. We know 100% for sure it's the internet card inside it that's broken. Id love to just use a normal internet cable but I need it at school as well and I can't use a cable there.. Can I buy a wireless internet card and have my dad fix it, or does any sort of USB internet card for MacBook Air exist? or do I have to buy a new one? Just give me anything, any suggestion. I only had it for 3 months and I don't want to get it fixed by apple people unless I know there's nothing I can do.

Your machine could/needs to be cleaned from the spilled coke or it will corrode over time to where it will not work.

This is not a good starter DIY project. It entails basically complete disassembly and reassembly of the machine after cleaning. Start by purchasing the recommended tools for disassembly (every job is easier when you use the proper tools) and STUDY (not just "read" or "look at") the disassembly guide & comments for your exact machine. Keep all the parts identified and separate (securing screws with double sticky tape on sheets of paper with notes or pictures helps),

Follow tags at right for a look at what you're going to have to do.

You may print out pages or URLS and visit a local computer repair shop. They should be able to do the job for less than Apple. (Although this is a DIY help sight only you know what your capabilities are - recognise limitations).

YES you can buy a USB WIRELESS DONGLE that works with MacOS X and use that instead of the card. While your there you can also buy a USB ETHERNET DONGLE to use with a cable. (Thunderbolt dongles would also work).

At the very least I would advise pulling the wireless card.. corrosion dust could spread through the "healthy" parts of your machine and do damage over time.

If this answer is acceptable please remember to return and mark it.
