Intermittant sound, now no sound through speaker

I first had intermittent sound, then the speaker quit entirely. When the problem first started, I could tap the phone and the sound would come back, Now, no amount of tapping will bring back the sound. I still have sound through the headphone jack when I insert headphones and the phone ear speaker still functions normally. I am assuming that the dock on the bottom of the unit contains both the speaker and the microphone. Is that correct? Also are there any other suggestions for repair of my phone other than replacing the dock assembly?

You are correct. The dock connector, in addition to the docking port, includes the speaker, antenna, and microphone. The practical solution is replacing the dock connector.

I do have on alternative suggestion. Before attempting replacing the dock connector, you could give it the old Nintendo fix a try. Open it up. Give the insides some compressed air or a spit-free buff of air.

Thanks for the reply. Since asking this question, I did open it up, blew it out and checked to see if the connectors were seated properly, but still no joy. I have ordered a replacement dock module.

Thanks,

Bob

It's been awhile. How did the replacement dock work out for you?

da

I replaced the dock module and that fixed my audio problem, but it introduced another, different problem and that was, I lost most of my cellular signal. I did an internet search and it was suggested that I replace the new antenna with the old antenna from the original (bad audio) module. I did, and that fixed the signal and audio problem. Now the phone is functioning normally again. I hate having to do a repair twice but at least it's fixed.
