HELP! I dismantled my MacBook and I've mixed up the screws!

Hi,

I'm really hoping somebody can help me with this! Recently my MacBook fell off my bed and although it seemed to have survived ok, I later found that the iSight camera had stopped working.

The computer is now out of warranty, but with a little help from the internet, I opened the LCD case and was able to reattach the ribbon cable and got the camera working.

Unfortunately, after taking the LCD top cover off, I discovered that all the screws on the right side were damaged, this made it impossible to replace the cover.

I sent away for a replacement and when it arrived I set to install it. But, in order to get the broken plastic off the screws that attached the hinges to the base, I was forced to dismantle the top cover, the clutch cover, the inverter, the hinges and ultimately the LCD itself.

Now I'm in a bit of a bind. As I started to get deeper and deeper into repair !@&$, the screws got all mixed up. Now normally I'm pretty mechanical and I can usually put things back together after I've taken them apart. But, this job really got away from me. I think now if I was given pictures of which screws went where and how the wires are meant to wrap around the hinges I'd be fine. I realize this might be asking a lot, so whatever anybody is willing to give me in the way of help, I will greatly appreciate.

Thanks in advance for whatever you can offer.

All the best,

David

Do a search for "screw guide", ie:

[prodotto collegato mancante o disabilitato: IF186-057]

And for the display:

MacBook Display Screw Set

I hope you didn't mix up the display and body screws.

Start out with the bottom screws, the four long ones, the two torx, and the exterior small ones and just work it out.

OK, just for fun, lets say I did mix up the display and body screws, what would I do then?... You know, hypothetically. :o)

Let’s see if we can walk through this. First you’ll need a millimeter gauge. Here’s one I use: http://www.amazon.com/Sliding-Millimeter...

This is also a process of elimination. Go to the teardown of the display: MacBook Core Duo LCD Panel Replacement

Step 5 One 11 mm Phillips in the middle of the case.

Two 14.5 mm Phillips.

Step 6 Two 3 mm Phillips.

One 4 mm Phillips on the right side.

Just keep going through the steps and set aside the screws step by step. If a screw is not identified in a step skip it and go back to it later when you have just a few unidentified screws left.

Also, on the first links to the screw sets, double click on the images of the screws to blow them up. Then you'll see a plus and minus in the upper left hand corner to go up and down. None of the display screws have rounded heads.
