Any Fix For iPhone 5 Rear Camera Not Focusing Since Replacing Camera?

Hi.

I used the iFixit guide to replace the rear camera in my iPhone 5. I used the guide step by step, used the replacement camera and tools I purchased from iFixit.

The phone and camera work but since doing the replacement, my rear camera won't focus well on things closer than about 30cm.

I believe the problem is that the camera isn't sitting up against the back panel correctly.

To rectify this I went back into the phone and tried repositioning without taking anything off and also by lifting off the first panel and then moving it around. Neither had any real benefit.

I don't believe disassembling everything again will help as when putting it all back, the camera gets moved around a bit.

Can anyone give me advice on this? It was my first iPhone repair so I may have missed something.

Any help will be appreciated.

Hi Kevin, I know for a fact that there are some rear replacement cameras for the iPhones that are manufactured without the autofocus. As all of these replacement parts are grey market parts some of then are really cheap quality and some are good quality.

It sounds like you got one of the cheap ones that do not have auto focus which is weird since you said you got it from iFixit and usually their replacement parts are good.

If I was you I would send iFixit and email and ask them to send you a camera with autofocus, if not luck, then search for another vendor and make sure to ask them about it before going forward with spending your money on it.

Thank you for replying so quickly and for giving the good advice. I have emailed iFixit now and will wait for their reply. I really hope that it was just a once off as I had only heard good things about iFixit and it's parts.
