Fan speeds up when rear case is screwed down tight
Hi all
I have the strangest problem:
I recently brought a water damaged MacBook pro back to life and I've managed to get it all working HOWEVER, when I sit the MacBook on the desk the fan ramps up to 6000rpm and the Kernal_task starts going into over drive, yet when I tilt it forward or take the weight off the back of the case it slows down to 2000 and works perfectly.
I've noticed small spring loaded pins on the logic board which touch the bottom case when its screwed on, I believe these are "grounding pins"? although I could be wrong and would love someone to clarify?? I'm convinced it has something to do with these.
Either way, when I take the bottom case off and hold the laptop in my hands and turn it on then the fan stays at its normal speed and everything works fine. I've literally experimented with it 20 times by sitting it flat, then lift it 10mm up, then sit it flat and lift it up, the fan responds every time by going from 2000rpm to 6000rpm, 2000rpm to 6000rpm and so on. When I sit with the laptop constantly at an angle then I do not have the problem at all.
In addition; I'm not sure if its related but the WiFi keeps dropping out and will sometimes show "No WiFi hardware installed" even though it works now and again ... I've also tried SMC and PRAM resets.
Someone out there must know what's going on. I'm reluctantly running Mavericks.
P.S Its very easy to say: "the logic board is gone" but there must be something activating and deactivating this fault and I'm refusing to give up!
Please Help!
