Why won't my laptop turn on?

I am having a hard time turning my laptop on recently. I have tried multiple times to power my laptop by simply pressing but also holding down the power button. I have also attempted to take out the battery and leave it out for a period of time but nothing seems to work.

Carlos, the next thing you want to do is to check your AC adapter with a multimeter. Check the out put at the barrel connector. It should measure around 19volts. If that works, than you want to disassemble your computer and measure the voltage at the DC jack to make sure that you have the same voltage on it. If the battery status indicator does not light up, remove the battery pack and let it return to room temperature. Re-install the battery pack. If the charge indicator still does not light up, replace the battery pack. If the charge indicator still does not light up, replace the DC/DC charger board. Here is a decent video that shows you how to work on your computer. Hope this helps, good luck.

If it still isn't working, try "hotwiring" it. The power button connects to a small connector under the keyboard. To access under the keyboard, use an edge of a plastic card (an old credit card does wonders) to wedge under the top side of the keyboard. it should require a little work, but it will unclip with a popping sound. Now, carefully flip the keyboard upside down while moving it towards the mousepad. There's a connector for the keyboard there that wou wouldn't want to break. now, theres a connector on the top-right corner of where the keyboard was. using a small fllat-head screwdriver or other peice of metal, gently tap the two points on the other side of the connector. Your computer should turn on.

Carlos, Perhaps try these attempts:

1. Try to turn on the computer with the charger adapter off the laptop.

2. If the laptop does not turn on, plug in the charger to the laptop. With the charger and the battery both attached to the computer, try to turn on your laptop.

3. If the computer turns on, turn off the computer and remove the battery. With the charger plugged in the computer, try to turn on the computer one more time.

4. If you are able to turn the computer on with the charger plugged in (and no battery), it is most likely a battery issue. Perhaps buying a new battery for your computer will be needed.

Here is a link that can help you replace the battery for the Gateway NV52.

5. If your laptop did not turned on on step 3, your charger adapter might be damaged. Perhaps try to use a different adapter and follow the steps one more time. Chances are that both your adapter and the battery could be damaged.

Hope this helps!

A few days ago my laptop would display would not come on, the laptop is several years old. I thought I would try replacing the main battery and the charger per my buddies recommendation before buying a new one. Well that did not help, but needed to be done anyway. Total cost about $40.00. Next my buddy suggested that I find the bootup battery and replace it. I googled my laptop and took the whole thing apart just to get to that CR2032 battery. Instead of putting it somewhere easy to get to, they buried it on the motherboard. I checked the battery and sure enough it was not putting out a charge. Now this is the bootup battery I'm talking about a $2.00 battery that shut down my laptop. Anyway, I replaced it, put it all back together and only had two tiny screws left over. The laptop booted-up like new, I did have to reset the current time and date, but other than that all my files and everything are still here.

larryrchrds whats symptoms did your Notebook have? Mine comes up with the charging light on, power light on but no display, no fan noise. The computer just stoped working out of the blue. Iam wondering if you experienced the same.
