Phone won't charge unless charger is plugged in at a certain angle.

My LG Rumor isn't charging and I believe the connectors are to blame. My wife has same phone that charges fine with the same charger. I did notice that when I plug the charger in to my phone and put something heavy on it, the phone will charge.

Is there a way to replace the port where the charger plugs in? How hard would it be to do this?

Woah dude! That was a waste of money! I had the same problem on my phone and I found that rich Dave was wrong. It was pocket lint. If you already replaced the phone, you could have just removed the lint yourself for free. That's what I did.

I just did what Drake said and it instantly fixed the issue. Thanks!

How do u he the lint out

da

Too funny but I just had the same problem. It was clear of lint so that wasn't the problem so I used a letter opener to pull back the prongs in the ear piece and it works now without any help holding the charger connection in place. I believe it was due to the way I was pulling it out of the charger. I'll more carful from now on.

I hope this help someone :-)

Mine still won't work I pull it in certain places I know it works but know those places aren't working

Sounds like either the cable/connector on the charger is faulty or the connector/socket on the phone is damaged

Try a different charger and see if it works OK.

Replacing the connector on the phone while possible is likely, you'd probably need to pull the main board out to do this. Getting a suitable replacement may not be easy either!

Thanks for the reply. The charger works fine on my wife's phone, so it is the socket on my phone. I guess I'll probably just replace the whole phone.

Removing the pocket lint is a far better approach! Use a pin!

I just cleaned the charger contacts on my iPhone. I was amazed at how much lint was packed in that small opening. Do not get rid of your iPhone. I also noticed how much dust/lint was on the charging cord itself and you're constantly pushing that into your iPhone. Thanks for the tip!

This totally worked !! I had to bend the charger a certain way for it to charge but it wouldn't stay charged. Very frustrating! I used a pin and gently scraped the inside of the port .... oh my word, the lint came out in chunks !!! After a couple of gentle scrapes .... magic !! My phone is charging without any problems !! Thanks so much for the tip. I was about to buy a new phone. !

it's pocket lint! same thing happened to my iphone 5, got worse and worse until i had to torque the charger at such an angle and with such force that it would only charge if i put 3 dictionaries on top of my phone to hold the cable tension.

went into an apple store and they cleaned out pocket lint from the charger jack. charges perfectly now.

they warned me not to try to remove the lint myself - they use a special pick that is gentle on the internal charging components i guess. but this was a super simple fix!! try it out!

OMG I could kiss the $@$* out of you right now ! I have the same problem with my phone and I used a safety pin to remove the lint and my phone is fixed now! :D thank you so much

amazing! used a thin sewing needle, and it worked like a charm. Thank you thank you!!!

Fantastic! I removed !&&* lot of lint from charging jack. It works like charm now. I was considering loosing a good amount of money on that by Apple service center. But thanks to awesomeness.

WOAH- who woulda thunk that there was lint up in there?! Thank you so much!

da

Wow... I can't believe that worked. Also, for others, sometimes it really takes some digging. Took a while but I got all the lint out. Thank you so much!

Whoa, somebody dug this old question up. Richdave's answer is pretty much spot on. The DC port is soldered onto the logic board. Replacements are available at places like this.. Take a look at this teardown for more information on how to get to the part.

I had this exact problem with my iPhone 6. I actually found that a small amount of pressured canned air (in my case for example, Memorex Air Duster) cleaned out the lint no problem and my phone charges fine now, regardless of angle.

Just wanted to come on here and say thank you to everyone that posted about lint being the problem. I have lived with my phone only charging with the charger pulled to one angle for over a year. I dug out the charging port with the end of a small paperclip and viola, charges at all angles every time. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!

YES! Repair shop said my 6S+ would cost $109 to fix (by replacing the charging port). I found a safety pin in my dresser, turned the phone off, and carefully expelled the lint from the port for free.

It was so compacted that compressed air didn't get anything out, so make sure you shine a light in there to get a better view. You should be able to tell just by the feel. If it's spongy when you stick the pin in, well, Friendo, you've got The Lint.

Thank you! Totally lint or at least dust in my Galaxy S7. I was about to buy a new cable. A pin didn't work, but blowing on the port and the charging cable plug cured the problem!
