HP DesignJet 6100 line sensor removal?

I am trying to replace a line sensor on an HP DesignJet 6100. The new unit includes a ribbon cable the feeds under a plate on the print head assembly. I can't see a way to remove the pale to get at the other end of the ribbon cable. Any suggestions would be appreciated. The ribbon cable end attached to the sensor came out and it seems like I could puul the new cable off the new part and insert the old cable instead but I'm hesitant to do that.
