ok so i accidentally dropped my phone in a small puddle is wasnt submerged however there is part of my screen missing ( i know i know its been time for a new phone!!) and now my screen wont work like at all!! i was told to just leave it plugged into the charger and leave it alone but its been on there for about 8 hours and nothing yet. what could i do?

I would first force it to reboot, you can do this by holding the home and power button for awhile. Most likely this will not work, but its always worth a try, if it doesn't then your looking at physical damage to some part of the phone. Probably the digitizer (Part of the screen assembly), its cheap to replace yourself if you're up to it. But if you can find any repair shop in your city to confirm your suspicions then I would do that.
Note: Replace the entire screen assembly.
