Waiting time Attempts for passcode in IOS 3.1.3

Hello everyone,

I am using again my old iPhone 3G with IOS 3.1.3 because my iPhone 4 broke (and I am still waiting for the screen to arrive in order to repair it).

Until then, I had forgotton that the iPhone 3G had a Passcode, I didn't remembered the passcode and so I tried with a lot of codes, it blocked me and made me wait a few minutes but nothing to do I wasn't able to remember the code.

I've found a bloc of paper with the code on it (I put it there a few years ago in order to never forget it). The problem is that, more than 24h have passed and the phone still won't ask me to enter the code. I now there is a waiting time but is it normal that it is higher than 24 hours ?

I've found in the internet that, after 11 attemps the screen goes blank and everything is erased, but that's on newer versions of the IOS. On the IOS 3.1.3 it still says "This iPhone is blocked, please connect it to iTunes".

The problem here is that it won't be recognized by itunes since I change my computer. And I can't make a reset of the phone since the home button is not working.

Could anyone help me solving this ? Is there a way to force the menu to enter the code ? Is there a way to reset it without the home button ?

PS: Sorry for my bad english.

Best Regards,

Luis Da Costa

Heres another trick you could try open the open up and see the two gold prongs on the dock now put phone to sleep don't turn off and open up but don't disconnect screen.

Now short the 2 contacts togeather with a screw driver touch the contacts at the same time with the metal peice if it works the screen should activate..

If it does now hold power and press and hold the screw driver on the contacts at the same time for 7 seconds and then take screw driver off and keep pressing power this should restart it

This is not a bad idea indeed... The screen cable is a little bit "used", and a small hint is necessary to disconnect the screen (I'll have to be careful in order to avoid this). Maybe I could make an external button using the one I have here from another device just of the occasion... I will give it a try tonight. It won't solve my button problem but that's not important here. I'll need to get a new button or maybe an application to replace the home button until I get my hands in it (and I don't even know if it exists for the iPhone 3G.. but I've already seen it in the iPad).

Thanks once again, I'll get in touch.

I've finally solved the problem ! I've found an iPhone 3GS (how lucky I am :D) without a motherboard and with a broken screen, so I tried replacing the button and it worked ! Now the home button is working, all I need is a cable and I am all set to make an Hard Reset to the iPhone and re-start using it until my iPhone 4 gets a new screen.

PS: Before that I've tried the "connecting point" in order to simulate the Home Button and it worked perfectly !

Once again thank you for all your help :D
