Unresponsive screen when connecting proximity/camera flex

Hi Guys.

I really hope someone has had this problem & resolved it.

I have just replaced the screen & proximity/camera flex i had to as the proximity sensor was also damaged.

The replacement screen works fine without the flex but as soon as i put the proximity/camera sensor with the receiver together the screen becomes unresponsive & has vertical lines.

Its not just with one screen its doing it with any screen i install.

The replacement proximity/camera flex the only difference is the copper shielding which is stuck to the metal backplate of the screen seen being removed here.

The replacement doesn't have any at all its identical to the one in the guide here

http://d3nevzfk7ii3be.cloudfront.net/igi...

Do i need to remove the shielding & attach it to the replacement proximity/camera flex? & could this be the reason why when i assemble everything it causes the screen to become unresponsive?

Any help or advice here would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

Hi Con thanks for your reply.

Would not replacing that copper tape cause the issues with the screen?

da

To be honest I'm not sure the 5s is so new everything has not been learned yet..

In my opinion I think the copper is for grounding and I don't think it should affect the screen..

Maybe the camera flex is faulty and causing the screen interference.. I would try another camera flex just to be certain.

I would try the copper on the flex just out of courisity..

Please update would be very interesting to find this out

da

Yeah I've tried 3 new camera flexes all same result also tried different earpiece speakers it's when I fully assemble it when I get the screen issue I don't even have to push the connector onto the motherboard for the camera flex to get the issue.

I'll sleep on it & try again if I figure it out I'll update

Could it be the screen when fully pressed down is damaging the cable in a way?

And u have tryed other screens aswel fully assembled?

Have you tryed old part with the copper tape?

da

Hey Con.

Sort of an update i pulled the copper tape off & stuck it back on making sure the proximity flex was rocked under it this seemed to work but i also tried this on a different screen so not sure if it was the other screens i was using.

I'll make sure in future i will try to keep this tape intact as possible.

Thanks for ther suggestions

While my issue is not identical to yours, I too replaced a 5s front panel assembly and am experiencing issues with the proximity sensor. My screen actually works but my front camera and proximity sensor seem to be shot. I have tried replacing with another, and I even took it to a cellphone repair shop with no success yet. I transferred the copper tape over and that didn't change. The shop told me it's supposedly attributed to the way/order you removed the front panel from phone. If you don't remove it a certain way it'll actually cause software glitches. But then again, it sounded like they just wanted to sell me a whole new assembly, who knows. That, and they told me it was a notorious issue with 4/4s. Anybody else shine some light on this problem?

Hi Isaac.

Is this with a 4/4s or a 5S if its a 4/4s its to do with a tiny strip of foam which goes between the proximity sensor.

If its a 5 or 5S the proximity sensor sits inside of a small frame which is normally glued to the screen.

I have only once tried to fit the camera/proximity flex without transferring this bracket & it didn't work so since then i have always transferred this little frame & I've never had a problem with proximity sensors since

Hi Kenny thanks for response. And this is on a 5s, the bracket I did seem to transfer over , it's just that the sensor is completely unresponsive. I believe I may have damaged pins when installing or uninstalling since front camera does not work either. I will make sure to keep everyone updated since I don't seem to be the only one with this problem.
