Lock button not working after screen replacement

I recently replaced an Ipad 2 screen and noticed the power/sleep/wake button allows me to power down the Ipad, but I am not able to put it in sleep/standby mode. I was able to do a reset by holding down the home and power button, but no luck putting the Ipad in standby mode. Because I am able to power down, doesn't that mean the button is actually working? Is there something in the software that recognizes it has a single click versus a hold down? I tried restoring via itunes with no luck either. I am right now relying on the auto lock feature to put it in sleep mode, but was curious if anyone had seen this issue before. The iPad won't even go to lock screen through assistive touch.

I know how to fix this! All you need to do is got to Settings > General > Lock / Unlock and switch it off. It sucks that you can't use the magnetic cover but if you don't have one its not an issue. Hope this helps :)

It worked. I have been looking for that lock/unlock feature for the longest, to think I was overlooking it all along. Thanks so much. I hated having to power off all the time.

It's a ipad mini

da

This is a common problem for the mini and it is a soldering issue on the home flex of replacement iPad mini digitizer assemblies. Sometimes the soldering can be retouched to solve, but a better solution is a replacement of the home flex, or replacement of the whole digitizer assembly.

da

I just wrote a post about this issue--take a look at the pictures that show original vs copy home flexes. Www.facebook.com/MommyFixit

da

yes thats right you just replace digitizer problem solved the one with whole soldering cable.

This solution resolved my issue with ipad mini 4

The power button is only working when you turn the divice on or off, locking the screen issent possible olso tried by assistive touch, it won't work... Can you please help me finding an answer to this problem ?

p.s. Another strange issue is when the divece is turned on, the apple logo come's on and normally after the apple logo desepears you automatticly see the startscreen, in this case the screen stays black after the apple logo desepears untill you push the home button, could this issue have to do with te powerbutton problem ?

the power/vol cable is easy to slightly bend or tear during installation. If it is defective, or damaged but not torn all the way through, it is possible for some of the functions of the cable (vol for example) to still work, but not all.

I think your next step is to replace the power/vol flex again.

It is possible to prompt an iPad to boot by inserting a charging cable, and it is possible to prompt an iPad to turn on the display by hitting the home button. It sounds like your power button is just not working properly--replacing the cable will likely solve

I was working on an ipad mini with the same problem today. I opened it up and cover all the components on the home flex cable. that solved the problem.

I had the exact same problem the other week.

For me it wouldn't lock even with the glass away from the frame, so knew it wasn't a grounding issue. Plugged another digitiser in, and it worked.

As I need to practice my soldering, I just sent the defective part back.

If you have covered all the contacts on this new screen to know it can't be this, and you still have the original screen, just plug it in to eliminate the part/ipad at fault.

someone mentioned before it's something to do with sleep function which goes through the home flex cable.

Good luck.

I have an ipad mini 4 as well. On my desk right now. Put a new screen in with original home button and now the sleep/wake feature doesn't work. I know it has nothing to do with the flex cable because when I put the old broken screen in, it works fine. But with the replacement screen, I can only hold the button down to turn the device off or take a screen shot. Sleep/wake feature will not work. Has to do with the replacement screen.

da

Shawn, its the digitizer IC that's bad. Swap it for a new digi and you will be back in business.

da

Hey Shawn, I know this was posted quite a while ago, but for anyone having this issue on the ipad mini 4 it is Not the Touch IC or the replacement part.. There is a small flex that is soldered to the original screen down at the bottom to the left of the home button. (There is a small piece of black tape covering the contact points. Remove this carefully to reveal the solder points and IC cable) That needs to be desoldered from the original, and soldered onto the new screen for the power button to function correctly. Most of the new ipad mini 4 screens will have the flex w/solder points exposed for this purpose. For some reason no tutorials show this step..

da

Yes guys. You have to desolder the sensor flex to the left of the home button under the tape and resolder to the new LCD assembly.

da

Andre W. Has the correct answer here for the iPad mini 4.

I got my digitizer replaced ipad air. And the power button isnt locking the device. It captures screenshots and even switches off but do not lock the device. Moreover. When i try to uninstall any app. The cross is not getting sensed. Whenever i touch cross it does not work. Plz help

da

I have exactly the same problem @addy. It seems weird that this issue is due to a broken digitizer.

da

I had my digitizer replaced. And the on/off option was showing on settings, and it worked fine. But after i do a full restore/erase. The option was not showing anymore. There should have a trick to bypass that!!!!

da

I have the same issue. Do you resolve it?
