Ear Speaker does not work after repair.

Replaced the the touch screen and now the phone earpiece no longer work. everything else work but not the ear speaker. A cable might not be connected. any advice.

Update

I solved my problem like this: It might be stuck in headphone mode a reset to the factory defaults might fix it but BE WARNED: IT MAY ERASE EVERYTHING ON PHONE SO BACK UP BEFORE DOING. THis is not a sure fix so use as a last resort after checking the cable connection, I think cable 2 controls the proxy sensor. I am not responsible for loss or malfunction to phone.

Hi, first off, good job solving it yourself, but can you please post your solution as an Answer and accept it, rather than a comment, so that this can be removed from the Unresolved and No Answers section? Thanks

Check all connections, that is what probably went wrong.

I will do that today. I know for a fact that I did not break the ribbon connector for cable 3.

I have the exact same problem. All Connections are fine. I've even disconnected and reconnected the face proximity sensor. I have no idea what to do from here.

I have the same problem, I think that the connector number 3 its not totally plugged (its very tricky) or its broken. Im tired of opening the iPhone trying to fix it.

The ear speaker is connected with a zif (zero insertion force) plug. The ribbon cable is VERY easily broken when reinserting it into the connector. Typically, zif's are easy to deal with, but as with everything apple, this one is a pain in the proverbial ^$*. There is a small tab on the socket that has to be flipped upward to release the ribbon, then back down to secure it. I'm a former digital systems specialist and dealt with these on an almost daily basis with no trouble, ever. I managed to break mine just checking out the internals while prepping for a battery replacement. The most important thing to remember in dealing with this pos is to not bend/fold the ribbon AT ALL when putting it back in place. Most likely, if you look at the ribbon very carefully, you'll see that it's traces are broken... might take a magnifying glass to see. Good luck all!

Same issue here, and the reset didn't fix it.

What parts need to be replaced this time?

:)

Its the connector under connector 2 . A ribbon connector which you need to slide into its slot , just above where connector 2 slots on . not to hard with some tweezers and wriggle a bit but dont force it all the way in . Its connector 3 that control the ear piece sound. Hope that helps

Check to see if speaker mode works. if so... You damage the flex cable while replacing the screen. :(

Don't freak out! Don't feel bad! it's VERY easy todo!! they are very fragile.

However, you can simply take the speaker off the broken screen, and put it on your new screen, and reassemble. This not TOO difficult, but it does take a careful eye and a steady hand. You need to DISSESSYMBLE THE DIGITSIER LIKE YOU DID WHEN REPLACING THE SCREEN. You will notice the 3 cable (i.e. the speaker flex cable) is attached by flimsy metal tabs… CAREFULLY bend the 2 tabs on the top to face 90 degrees upward. The housing unit that holds the flex cable is held on by metal clips on both sides that snap on the plastic placement. DON’T pry UPWARD!! Ever so slightly rock the unit side (width wise) till it comes loose. Then swap it with the damaged unit.

BE EXTREMEL CAREFUL INSERTING THE FLEX CABLE. EVEN SCRATCHING IT CAN CAUSE IT TO MALFUNCTION.

GOOD LUCK.

I had this problem, and it required a couple of tries to get the #3 ribbon connector to seat, and then click the tiny latch in place, before it came undone again, before the ear speaker started working again. No reset of the phone was necessary.

About 90% of the Digitizer assembly I've bought online have had faulty earpiece speakers. It's quite terrible.

In case someone is as newbie and absentminded as me, you might want to check for any transparent protective film left covering the ear speaker's mesh. My digitizer replacement had plastic film on BOTH sides so that did it for me!

Read somewhere cleaning to phone jack with q tip and alcohol with q tip paired down would do it and it did. Weird. I had a hard time with cable 3 getting it back in and grabbed it with tiny needle holder worried i damaged ribbon. Probably i did.
