My MacBook Pro isn't recognising my new HD replacement

MacBook Pro 13" Mid 2012 2.5GHz Intel Core i5

My standard 500GB Apple HD recently died on my a few weeks ago, coming up with the dreaded question mark on startup.

So I did a bit of research and bought a new one. It's a Western Digital 750GB, 7200 rpm hard drive, and using one of the iFixit guides I replaced the broken one with the WD. But I still get the question mark. So I tried Internet Recovery, and that didn't work either, because Disk Utility doesn't recognise that there is any internal HD.

I'm not sure of the new HD's formatting. I have a backup of my system before it died (Mac OSX Mavericks) but when I went to restore it, again, my computer said there was no HD to restore it to. And it's the same story when I went to re-install OSX. What could have happened? I should also note that my HD has been replaced numerous times.

At this point I would replace the SATA cable. Apple & some 3rd parties had gotten some bad cables. It's possible your issue was the cable Vs the HD it's self.

Update

Yes - Follow this IFIXIT guide [http://Yes - Follow this IFIXIT guide: MacBook Pro 13" Unibody Mid 2012 Hard Drive Cable Replacement

And here's the part from IFIXIT: MacBook Pro 13" Unibody (Model A1278 Mid 2012) Hard Drive Cable

If you want to prove its the cable I would use something like IFIXIT's Universal Drive Adapter to connect your HD to your system externally.
