Is there any way to charge a bare iPhone 4 battery directly?

My iphone 4 does't charge nor be recognized by computer. And I tried to replace the battery but it did not help.

I checked the answers here and I guess the issue is probably cased by the components (USB fuse or power management IC) damage. It is far beyond my capability to replace the components by myself...

So I give up to fix my phone but just want to get my iphone some power so that I can turn it on and backup the important information still in it.

I am wondering if there is a way I can charge the bare battery directly without the phone, then I can put the battery back to turn the phone on?

The method is not necessary to be perfect, I do not care the operation may affect the battery life (I will get rid of the whole phone after I get the information in it anyway). Any method can get the battery some power without the phone is welcomed.

Thank you.

Shuozhifenxi, first of I suggest that you clean your iPhone properly, since there is a chance of water exposure. Use these guides to work on your phone. Follow this guide to clean your phone. It was written for a 3G but all the points are still applicable to your phone. Once properly cleaned, replace the battery. In your case "does't charge nor be recognized by computer." I would very seriously consider a new dock connector. It is cheaper and easier to replace than any SMD components on your logic board. Of course, it is also possible that you are having issues with the PMIC. You will have to properly measure the components outlined in the image. Check the inductors with a multimeter. I do agree with my colleagues and suggest that you do not charge the battery directly. This could end up with some very nasty surprises, unless you have a circuit that will enable you to properly "manage" the charging procedure. Hope this helps, good luck.

First--have you tried changing the dock connector? This isn't hard, and could solve the problem.

Second--buy a $5 battery online--it will have some charge for you to do what you need.

Third--charging LiOn batteries outside of a battery charger can burn down your house.

Thank you for your reply.

I did not try to change the dock connector because I do not see any sign to show the connector is broken. The problem came after I splashed some water on the phone and some answers here suggest the charging issue after slight water damage would usually caused by the damage of the USB fuse or power IC.

And could you tell me which kind of charger do you suggest? If you are talking about the USB wall charger, I tried several but they did not work. (And this is also a reason I think some components on the logic board is damaged.)

I know charging bare Li-ion battery is kind of dangerous. So I just want to know if there is a safer way (like kind of special circuit or something ) to do that other than to connect a 4.2v power supply direct on the connector of the battery. I would not do that routinely but just for a dirty and quick fix so that I can retrieve the information in the phone.

I mean do not try to charge it by applying any kind of current to the battery connector. That *can* kill you.
