erased all hard drive and cant re-install

I accidentally erased the hard drive. Im trying to re-install using target disk mode and my OSX 10.6 disk for and with my Macbook pro. When i use the disk alone on the mini it says it cant install. I've tried to install the disk in target mode to the mini drive. I was actually successful once but subsequently wasnt able to get the mini running despite. Im not sure what to do. It might be that the drive in the mini isnt partitioned correctly or that I dont have the right software...or both. I know the mini drive is fine because it was working in the beginning using 10.4 ( i belieive). Anyway, any help or advice would be greatly appreciated!

Try this: Download Mavericks (10.7) from the App store (free) and try installing it using target mode. Apple had a few incompatible releases of Mountain Lion and even shipped the mini with the wrong ID'd release so internet OS recovery failed to work which maybe where you are facing here. Jumping to Mavericks (10.7) should get you over that problem.

I'm WRONG! Had the wrong model in my head when I answered.

You'll need to to stick with Snow Leopard 10.6.9 or older. To get it you'll need to find a copy or contact Apple for a CD or DVD ($$) Or, find a friend that still has a copy.

are you sure maverick is compatible with the 2006 mac mini? my understanding is that it can go up to leopard

Lion is 10.7, Mountain Lion 10.8, Mavericks 10.9

You can download an image of 10.6 and install from a FW Drive, or a DVD. First format the drive and make sure that it has GUID for the main partition (advance in disk utility).
