13" aluminum unibody, 2.0 or 2.4 GHz Core 2 Duo processor.

What hard drives are compatible with this model?

The hard drive of my MacBook 13" Aluminum Unibody recently died on me, and i'm in need of a replacement. I'm not hardware-savvy so i apologize if this is a silly question, but am I able to purchase any internal hard drive and self-install? Or are there certain models and/or storage limits that i'm bound by?

Thanks!

Any 2.5" SATA internal Hard Drive can be used with this model of MacBook! They are available at a reasonable price pretty much anywhere hardware is sold, including right here on iFixit!

I tried a WD5000LPVX 500GB 2.5" SATA and when I booted the system the disk utility could not find it. I put back the old failed drive and it recognized it so I know its not the SATA Cable (even though the old drive cannot be restored or refomated etc.). Not sure why this new HD cannot work with my Macbook.

It is probably formatted to Windows file system EXT3, try formatting it to FAT32 on another system, Linux will usually do a good job of this.

This is a long shot but would you know the original HDD model? I have a failed HDD i'm trying to recover, but I can't recall the original model to take parts from.
