Would you recommend me fixing or trashing my old MacBook?

I am a norwegian girl who just found this site. I have an old macbook with broken battery, it won`t charge. I have never fixed my own technical stuff...
Should I try to fix my mac? It is a macbook from 2008, so the battery should be easy to fix. But it could do with som more hard drive space and RAM, and the fan could possibly be changed to.. and then it is the crackes in the plastic case.. If I am to fix the machine, I would like to fix it so I can use it some more years..
Is it adviceble for me to try?

This will help us to find the proper manuals and parts that might be needed for your computer. After that, success will depend on your technical abilities and on how much you want to spend. THere's a lot of life left in that box, if you're not too demanding. If you can read and follow directions you can be a DIYer. Oldturkey is right the first thing is to identify your particular machine so you can calculate costs.
