Why won't my tablet charge or turn on?

I recently bought a new charger and the first hour it was charging since it was on 0% i then took the charger out and the tablet wont turn on, i tried EVERYTHING, including touching the screen while holding down on button, holding down the volume buttons while holding down the power button, i even let it sit with the charger in for like 24hours and repeating those steps. STILL NOTHING. is it the charger? any suggestions?

Disconnect charger

Hold power button and volume up button for 30 seconds

Keep holding buttons while plugging in charger

This problem has been recognized by Samsung, it's a factory thing, all You need to do, is open your tab, remove the battery cable for about 10 mins and plug it back again, unplug the screen from the motherboard, and charge it for about, two hours, then plug back the screen connector, and turn it on, if you see it works, turn off the tablet again, and plug in the power cord again, you'll see the charging animation starts, leave it charging for the time you think it's necessary to reach 100%, unplug the cable and turn it on, your tablet is alive, the only problem I've found about this, is that you'll need to turn the tablet completely off whenever you want to charge it, and finally this, VERY IMPORTANT! When your tablet is below 15 or 10% battery, charge it, because if you let the battery die, probably you'll have to do all the steps again.

Samsung Tablet SM-T580

(Galaxy Tab A 10.1) WiFi Only

4 months old as of 11 Sept 2017

Wouldn't show charging.

Wouldn't turn on despite being on a reliable charger all night.

Completely unresponsive even after trying multiple different chargers and cables .

Removed Micro SD Card

Tried the Volume up +power thing for 15-20 secs... No response.

Pressed power and DOWN volume at the same time for 15-20 secs.

Charge screen popped up, pressed power and it turned on.

Hope this works for someone else.

This is an old thread, but hopefully it will help someone. The issue is that the tablet requires some battery life in order to enter charge mode. With most tablets this is typically around the 4% battery life mark. If you go below this point, the tablet does not have enough power to enter the charge state. This was a common problem for the Black Berry Playbook.

The solution is to use a rapid charger to boost it. The rapid charger that comes with the galaxy s6 or s7 will work. You can also try an external battery pack as they generally run on the same rapid charge principle.

Nothing else I tried worked. This worked immediately! Thank you! My fingers and thumbs were getting tired of holding in the power and/or volume buttons and that didn't work, anyway.

I remembered I had a Mega Chargers, external battery charger than I bought for my iPhone without realizing it didn't have the proper connection and had forgotten to return. I plugged it in and it started charging immediately.

I, also, just realized that I could have used this, (I presume?), on my Apple devices by using the cable that comes with them.

This has been a great learning experience.

I wonder, will a charger plugged into the car do the same thing or, will only an external rapid charger do this?

Thank you so much. This is so much easier, also, safer for the tablet than trying to pry off the back which, per YouTube, is very tricky and time consuming and, at least, one guy broke his tablet doing so.

THANK YOU. THANK YOU. THANK YOU!!!!!

I used the charger of my old HTC mobile phone, it has the same slot, and tablet started charging straight away. Just thought to mention it , it may help someone. Thanks for the idea to use a mobile phone charger!

da

I was helping a friend and they'd lost their charger, so we bought a cheap little usb wall adaptor, but the Tab got stuck in a loop and wasn't charging. In the end I used my wife's Sony Xperia charger and the blue charging band has gone back to normal. I hasten to add that the Tab hasn't been used for nearly a year anyway, so it was completely discharged.

da

I tried everything above to no avail, but this my good man. This worked, I thought it might've been something else but it was just a simple rapid charge!

da

I had lost hope after trying all of the methods listed above. But then after reading your statement, I changed my charger and right after I had connected it to my tablet, it turned on. Ty ^-^

My tablet wasn't turning on after I restarted it to change the sim card. So I pressed the power button for 30 seconds and plugged in the charger. Then suddenly it was charging and it displayed 100% so I turned it on and when it turned on it said 0% battery and tuned off again so I tried to push the power button for 30 secs again and waited for a minute or 2 then I plugged in the charger and It's charging again. What happened to the old charger? You dont specify what tablet it is or symptoms leading up to this point. Did you recently buy this tablet and it didnt come with a charger? If so there may be other issues such as the batterys may be expired. Care should be taken when buying a charger, and charging cables as well. There are cheap knock-off versions of genuine equipment out there and you have to be very careful what you buy because sometimes they simply do not do the job.

If your tablet refuses to charge it will not turn on due to lack of power, you either have a bad charger, or a loose/broken slot. Try holding the connector (part of the charger that plugs into the tablet) with your thumb pushing pressure away form you, while your index finger pushes the opposite side toward you. Since it has no power it will not automatically respond. So give it a few minutes to charge. If still no response in a total of 10 minutes in that position. You may want to start looking for a new charger.

I tried the power and volume up thing from the previous answer where almost everyone said it worked for them with no success. I bought a new charger cable and wall adapter just in case off of Amazon. I've had the same problem. Three times. I can say that, twice out of them it has turned out to be the charging port. The connection between the tablet and theven charger. To get it fixed some, same day work phone shops will replace the damaged part.

The third time I got a small pin and cleaned away any dust and dirt from it and re connected the charger.

Hope this helps

It's been a long time since I used my Samsung tablet. It wasn't showing anything, if it was charging nor booting... I tried some of the tricks posted above, no luck... so I decided to just hold the power button and after about 1 minute of holding down Power... Samsung logo showed so then I plugged the tablet. System was probably in deep sleep mode or something like that.. :) I tried to charge it before so when it booted up the charge was already at 86%...

SOLUTION

Using a Scosche LED charging cable helped to figure out that if I held POWER Button on it would seemingly charge for 4-5 seconds, then off for same, then on again. So I taped the POWER Button on & left it for 45 minutes or so & found it to be about 3/4 charged. Took tape off releasing Power Button still charging just fine.

Hope this helps someone else.

Sad that Samsung isn't fixing this problem. But they should at least figure out a way around it & share it with everyone. Another mega company that doesn't much give a crap about you after they got your money.

I faced similar problem with my Samsung Tablet. Firstly I tried to correct the fault at my side but when I was not successful, I called Samsung Customer care here http://qwikfix.co.uk/samsung-customer-se... . After carefully hearing me they forwarded my call to the concerned division and by telephone they told me the below mentioned steps, on the basis of which I corrected the problem now it is running perfectly. Here are the steps:-

--First, remove the SD Card and sim card.

--Press the Power button +Volume Up at the same time for at least 10 seconds.

--Release the power button when the Samsung logo pops up, but continue to hold the Volume Up until the recovery screen appears

My tab is showing exact same problem. Solved it by holding the power button for 10 minutes when starting to charge it. This leaves the screen on just a little shorter at each (8-9 seconds) charging cycle attempt. After the 10 minutes the battery has this tiny bit more power allowing it to start the normal charging cycle, and showing it at the screen for a few seconds, as that is where the whole issue comes from I belief.

Had same problem with Samsung tab a. When I put in the charger the battery charging screen turned up. The problem was that before the background light of the charging screen turned of, the battery was dead again. Here is how I solved it.

When the charging screen which shows a percentage shows up, press the power button short to start the device. Like this there is a black screen for a second (battery can charge a little bit).

Then when the tab is starting hold the power button together with the volume down button for about 12 seconds. The tab shuts down and you will have a black screen again for a few seconds (charging the battery without background light).

Then the tab will boot again showing the charging screen. When you get the charging screen showing the battery percentage, start the procedure again. Repeat these actions about 5 to 10 times.

After that, when you come back to the charging screen showing the battery percentage, leave it alone. Normally after 1 minute the screen will turn black, and stays black. After 5 minutes, if you press the home button the tab should show it has 1 percent battery and now it can charge normal again.

ive found a solution that has proven to be VERY effective that doesnt require taking apart anything OR factory resetting. and odd as it sounds its the core temperature of the battery becoming TOO COLD that keeps making it become non responsive. so ive been working on computers for 19 years now and smartphones since the first android was released and so i was sitting there reading these comments about unplugging and plugging the battery back in and it got me started thinking about lithium ion and how it performs when it at a very cold state and since the battery is ULTRA THIN i was wondering……?? so i plugged it in and i put in under my shirt against my skin and held it there under my arm with my elbow and started playing a round of pubg(a game) and after about 10-15mins i felt it vibrate and i was like NO WAY! and sure enough it was charging again. BUT! i started to realize that itd start dying again or stop charging if it got cold again and TOTALLY stopped responding once more altogether. so the second time i used a heat gun on low and ran it back and forth across the back of it for just a few minutes and once again it came back to life so now i know that its definitely a TEMPERATURE related issue as well and i just thought id share my discovery with u all so maybe itll help someone.

My samsung galaxy tab A 2016 with s pen 10 inchi had this problem too last week and i tried every solutions on this page except freezing my tablet but wasnt able to charge or turn it on in the first day. Then I pluged off the charger for one night and decided that i would bring it to repairment shop on the next monday, but if the repaiment cost is too high,i would just retire the tablet and buy another one when i got a chance . But then i tried to do all of the suggestions (except the freezing one) once more on the next morning and it still didnt work out except one, it was the one with changing my charger to an old one (mine was the one with an output of 1.5 Ampere), when it actually didnt work out the day before when i charged using the same charger. So, Thank you Steve taylor for suggesting it and hope anyone whose tablet is having the same problem like us, could charge/turn on their tablet again. Thanks

My samsung galaxy A6 tablet had this problem. I accidently let it get to 0% and it wouldn’t charge back up. It would come up with the battery symbol once plugged in but would flicker after a moment. I did manage to get a loading screen sometimes but it would flicker off just before getting to the home page. I tried everything from prying open the tablet and unplugging the battery, to pressing buttons in a certain order.

The person suggesting putting it in the freezer, please don’t do that. Lithium ions does work more efficently in the cold but you run the risk of cracking the front glass of your device and if you happen to freeze the ions they expand making the battery prone to possible cracking or at worse exploding once the battery comes back up to temperature. (this is the basic understanding I have)

What has worked was plugging in a fast charger and then pressing on/off button for 5 minutes and charging icon came up.

Please do be careful with your devices, they are expensive and your data is too. If you not sure try the non dangerous ideas (buttons), otherwise leave it to a professional.

ok it is not ur charger it could be the battery which is replaceable heres a link for some. http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40...

if it is the charger port that is not so well which is fix-able but cost alot so it would be like buying a whole new engine for a 50,000 dollar car. that means you should just buy a new tablet

I removed the cover and unplugged the cables fro the battery (both). Then I took a voltage source with voltage and current limiting. I set the no load voltage to 3.5V (battery voltage is 3.8) and short circuiting this source, I set the max output current to 100 mA. Then I connected the source to the battery (first check the polarity) + to + and - to -. There was this limiting current of 100mA during charging. I waited half an hour and the voltage increased to 3.4V. I removed the source, connected the two battery cables, connected the charger and saw the screen showing the battery level at 0%, charging. It worked

Just to give the battery a push in the right direction

I tried the method of holding for 30 seconds etc, but it didn’t work. Then I saw your comment Tia about holding he on/off button down for 5 minutes and tried that. I’m not sure if it is working, but the charging icon flashes on and off now, and it showed 0% at one point. Fingers crossed.

Update (09/01/2020)

An update to my previous comment. What I did didn’t seem to work. The screen kept flashing, and sometimes a message would come up “Android Downloading. Don’t turn off the source” and one time I got the recovery menu. But all the time the screen just kept flashing. I would also see the charging icon, but it always said 0%!

But, the flashing slowly reduced in frequency, so I kept trying the “hold down the start button and volume up for 30 seconds…..” method, and when I had a few free minutes I would try holding down just the power button for as long as I could be bothered (several minutes).

Finally, the charging icon stayed on for a few seconds, so I left it alone while I went to the dentist. When I came back, maybe an hour later, I pressed the power button once which brought up the charging icon, and to my surprise, it showed 1%. It was charging……

24 hours later it shows 77%

So, I don’t know what did it in the end, but my “dead” Samsung tablet is now working. As another commenter said, I will not let it fully discharge again.

2. If you have a on/off switch do not do step one. Just turn it on and off again.

When I do this to google, it restarts. That may happen.

Check your plug. Follow the steps at the top

So I looked at different people’s answers and tried a combination of ways. I FINALLY GOT IT!!

My tablet hasn’t been turned on for 2 years. I bought it for when I travel for work and haven’t traveled much. At first, my tablet wouldn’t even turn on when I plugged it in. It didn’t charge and never turned on.

I fixed this by plugging it into my computer. Why it works? I don’t know.

BUT it was still only stuck on the battery with the charging icon. It wouldn’t turn on or actually charge.

So then I found an OEM Samsung Fast Charging Adapter and the OEM charging cord. I plugged the tablet into it and still got the stuck battery screen.

This is how I finally fixed it:

I held my power button, unplugged the charger (the screen should still be on while you’re holding the power button), then I plug the charger back in and now finally let the power button go. It changed from the battery with a charging icon to the actual charging screen that says 0%! I left it alone to see if it would charge and it did! I was able to turn it on and use it like normal. I don’t know how long it will last now that the battery has been drained and never used in awhile but I’m happy I got it to actually charge and turn on. :)
